ICT SERVICES

Bespoke application development and planning/business optimisation studies can be undertaken by Mott MacDonald’s leading edge team with an extensive track record within the ICT, GIS, transportation and utilities industries. The team comprises hardware, software, networking, design, development and maintenance/support and GIS experts with a wealth of public and private sector experience.

Mobile application development

The team have undertaken a number of mobile (PDA/tablet-based) surveys to support market research and transport planning projects in a number of industry sectors ranging from transportation planning through to health service asset audits.

Wolverhampton Hospitals Audit
Design and development of a mobile asset inspection application for both in-room and outside building condition inspections. In turn, data following verification was written to a structured database for delivery. Electrical, mechanical and structural engineers were able to individually capture information whilst on-site at the hospital location through form-driven, username identified software loaded onto hand-held tablet PCs.

Birmingham City Council – Bus Lane Survey
Designed and developed an interactive, forms-based, multi-user application for use on mobile communications devices e.g. tablet PCs for bus lane data acquisition. Recognising that this software was to be used on a moving bus made Mott MacDonald consider both easy-of-use and ergonomic issues to be of paramount consideration. Easy-of-use was addressed by the incorporation of business programming logic to guide users through a series of context related questions. Data gathered on mobile communication devices was exported to a Microsoft Access database which was engineered to accept simultaneous multiple data writers.

Requirements Modelling and Business Process Change

Both as standalone projects, and as part of design and development commissions, the team has worked with a variety of client organisations to assess business processes and then propose improvements particularly where technology can be applied to automate otherwise onerous manual processes.

CENTRO GIS Requirements
A GIS review and requirements gathering project for a corporate GIS for CENTRO, the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive. The project involved interviews with key staff members, business process analysis and high level system design. The project has facilitated information sharing and promoted ‘joined up thinking’.

CENTRO GIS - Potential System Design

British Airports Authority (BAA)
A strategic review including data, software and procedures for updating BAA’s Surface Access Planning GIS systems/capabilities. The project investigated the collation of disparate datasets from across the organisation and beyond, analysis of existing capabilities/systems and providing system, data, and procedural recommendations.

BAA SAMS - Open Standards Solution

Mott MacDonald Group
Strategic review, automation of manual processes and design/development of software to improve a number of corporate processes within Mott MacDonald with specific aims to web-enable applications wherever possible to allow adoption across many disparate office locations.
